Who Can Benefit from Sex Therapy?
Sex therapy provides support for those facing challenges with intimacy, communication, or self-confidence in relationships. This includes women experiencing specific sexual health concerns, such as vaginismus, pelvic pain, low desire and couples recovering from infidelity. I’m also here for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and those in kink or polyamorous relationships who want a safe, non-judgmental environment to address their needs.
If you’ve been feeling isolated, anxious, or frustrated by struggles with intimacy, communication, or past experiences, this therapy is designed to help you move forward. At Authentic Living Psychotherapy, I offer a space where you’ll feel fully understood and respected, whether you’re straight, queer, monogamous or in an open or polyamorous relationship.
Key Issues Addressed in Therapy
Sex therapy can help with a variety of issues affecting relationships and personal well-being. Here are some of the main areas I work with:
Support for Women’s Sexual Health: Addressing issues like vaginismus, sexual trauma, pelvic pain, and low desire in a compassionate setting.
Communication and Connection: Helping couples and individuals express their needs, boundaries, and emotions with clarity.
Making Repair and Rebuilding Trust: Helping couples make repairs and move through the “rough patches.”
Desire Discrepancies: Bridging gaps in sexual desire and finding understanding.
LGBTQ+ and Kink-Affirming Therapy: Providing respectful support for LGBTQ+ relationships, kink, and polyamory, in an environment that validates your experiences.
Whatever your specific challenges may be, sex therapy offers a space to work through them without shame or judgment.
What to Expect in Therapy Sessions
Therapy sessions are private, talk-based, and entirely confidential—a safe space where you can explore your concerns openly and without fear of judgment.
As a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Sexual Health Certificate Program and a formerly AASECT Certified Sex Therapist I am trained extensively in human sexuality and participate in ongoing training. I understand sexual problems and their solutions and I’m here to help you heal. I am currently certified through IAPST and IBOSP and a Member of SSTAR. I stay abreast of the latest research in the sexuality arena.
I have a sex-positive approach. My goal is to create a supportive environment, while employing various modalities, so my clients can find healthy, shame-free, sexual well-being and pleasure.
In each session, we’ll work together to:
Build Self-Confidence: Address shame, find self-acceptance, and regain trust in yourself.
Improve Communication Skills: Learn ways to express your needs and boundaries clearly, deepening connections.
Develop Positive Intimacy: Create healthy relationship patterns that support a fulfilling, connected life.
Sessions are conducted online, allowing you to attend from the privacy of your own home in Michigan or Connecticut, using a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
