A Path to Healing with Brainspotting

Today I want to delve into a topic that touches many of our lives—trauma. Trauma isn't just about the significant events that happen to us; it's about how these experiences are stored in our bodies and minds. Many of us carry trauma from various stages of our lives, whether from childhood events, accidents, or other distressing experiences. Alongside this, we often harbor critical thoughts like "I'm not good enough," which can be rooted in those deeper, unresolved wounds. ---

The Limitations of Talk Therapy

In traditional talk therapy, we engage the logical thinking part of our brain—known as the neocortex. This region, located behind your forehead, is responsible for planning, organizing, and problem-solving. While talking can help us process emotions and learn vital life skills, trauma often resides outside this rational part of the brain. It is deeply embedded in the more primitive areas.

Understanding Trauma in the Brain

Trauma is stored in the subcortical brain, such as the amygdala, which forms part of the limbic system—a network controlling our emotions, behavior, and memory formation. This system governs our survival instincts and emotional responses. During a traumatic event, the logical brain can go offline, leaving an imprint of trauma in these deeper areas. This explains why, when triggered by certain stimuli—like a tone of voice or a specific situation—we react from a place of pain, fear, or anger, as if reliving the experience.

The Power of Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a technique that helps access these deeper brain regions. By focusing on specific points in your visual field, brainspotting connects directly to your emotional and survival systems. This approach harnesses the brain from the bottom up, starting with the reactive, primitive parts and progressing to the logical thinking brain. Through processing trauma in this way, your mind and body can release burdens that no longer serve you, leading to profound healing. The result? Negative self-beliefs and old behavior patterns begin to shift. You might find yourself embracing new, positive thoughts like, "I've always been good enough" or "I deserve to feel safe and loved." These aren't just thoughts but become deeply held truths within you.

A Transformative Experience

This kind of change goes beyond words—it's something you'll feel within your body and your being. I've witnessed this transformative power in my clients' lives and am deeply committed to facilitating this deeper level of healing. Just as I wouldn't withhold antibiotics if you had an infection, I won't withhold brainspotting when I know it can be the key to your healing. If you’re ready to move beyond the surface, to release the burdens of your past, and to step into a healthier, freer version of yourself, I'm here to guide you. Let’s explore how brainspotting can help you reclaim your life.

TL:DR

Healing from trauma isn't just possible; it's palpable. By unlocking the trauma stored deep within our brains and bodies, we can embrace life more fully and authentically. If you feel ready, contact me to discuss how brainspotting could be your path to healing. Together, we can work towards a future where you feel safe, loved, and truly good enough.
